I (LeRoy Wentz) was in Reno on February 17, 2001 and decided to look up Bill Bowser who lives there. I found Bill at the Reno Livestock Events Center running a track meet. George Ball and George Wilkinson were helping him. All three are unpaid volunteers (I know that's an oxymoron, but I wanted to emphasize it). Bill Bowser has run the indoor track meets for the University of Nevada at Reno for over 10 years and his Las Vegas Alumni buddies help him. Bill has organized over 80 volunteers into a smooth and efficient operation. Bill assembles and maintains the track; sets up a computer system with automatic sensors and cameras; and directs its use. Among the volunteers are Bill's Wife, two Sons and two Grandchildren. George Ball helps with some of the events and also performs in Senior Pentathlons - He plans to compete in the National Senior Pentathlon in Tacoma, WA this June. The bottom photo shows George Wilkinson using a scope to measure the distance that a long jumper jumped. This indoor track operation was featured in a Reno Gazette-Journal article on 2/17/01.
